A few years ago, I am really not sure how long ago now, I read an article in an Australian “Delicious” magazine. In this article I remember the author touting the “delicious organic broccoli” that he had recently sampled.
At the time, it really did get me thinking about the taste and quality differences in produce.
For some of you, this is probably an obvious statement…. goodness me, any “Masterchef” viewer will be familiar with “hero-ing the produce”.
For others, it may be, as I think it was for me, that you may recognise the quality differences in fruit (often with the nostalgia of “fruit used to taste better when I was a child”, be it, nectarines, apples or even tomatoes), but vegetables… well, they are just vegetables! This is the kind of mindset that causes us to shop by look (or price!) and then wonder why the salad just was not quite as good as last time!?!?
Since this time, I have both experienced perfect pumpkins, brilliant brococoli and climactic cucumbers, and encourage you to do the same.
Furthermore, I encourage anyone more educated than me, be you a scientist, farmer, or fruiterer, to weigh in on this matter!
